What to Feed your Labrador Retriever Puppy

Feeding your new Labrador Retriever puppy the right type of food can seem difficult. There are so many different brands out there that promise to do so much for your growing pup. Take a look at a few brands, the premium brands (which are usually sold at veterinarian's offices or online) will normally have a high nutritional value. This will allow you to feed your Lab pup less food at scheduled feedings. The brands that have a higher nutritional value will also be easier for your puppy to digest.

Life's Abundance is one of the best premium dog foods on the market today, and your growing Labrador Retriever puppy will need only the best. Some dog foods that are not seen as being premium are filled with additives and by-products. These can be hard to digest and harmful for your Labrador Retriever puppy. Life's Abundance is free of all by-products and fillers. Just pure natural human grade ingredients. Ingredients such as fresh fruit and vegetables, which help provide antioxidants and minerals, all premium chicken meal and catfish meal, this is free of all by-products so your Lab puppy is just getting the pure protein needed at the early stage of life. Life's Abundance is also filled with whole grain brown rice which aids in adding fiber to your dog's diet. With beet fiber, brewers yeast, and bacteria cultures, your Lab will have an active immune system, and great overall health.

Experienced Lab breeders know that you should never feed your puppy what you and I would eat. Human foods are not always best for a growing Labrador Retriever puppy. They need specific ingredients to stay active and healthy and what we eat may not be good for their systems.

Dog foods on the market today are made specifically for certain periods in a Labrador Retriever's life. There are foods made for early puppy stages to old age. These foods contain added ingredients to help the dog excel for that stage. Most vets and Labrador Retriever breeders will recommend that you feed your Lab puppy "puppy stage food" for the first two months that the puppy is home with you. After the two month mark you should feed your Labrador Retriever puppy adult dog food. An excellent way to judge exactly when you should switch the type of food, is to take a look at the growth of your Labrador Retriever puppy.

Once your Labrador Retriever pup has grown to around 90% of its growth then you should switch the food to adult stage. This is recommended because many puppy staged foods contain extra calcium and proteins. This may seem like a great addition to the food because we think of a Lab puppy as always growing and needing more calcium and protein; unfortunately, the added calcium and protein can cause problem in the joint, tendon, and muscle development of the puppy.
